If you are writing up your resume for the first time, make sure to keep it simple. Whilst writing your resume, it is important to remember that whatever you produce will create your first impression.

Therefore your aim is to make your first impression a good one! It is vital that each resume includes the following:

 

 

 

 

Contact Details include:

  • Full name
  • Current address
  • After hours phone number
  • Mobile number
  • Work number(optional)
  • Email address

Qualifications:

  • List qualifications putting the most recent at the top
  • Bachelor/Diploma title
  • Institute, TAFE, School or University you attended
  • Where (i.e. Melbourne, Australia)
  • Date of completion

Employment History:

  • List your work experience putting the most recent at the top.
  • State the start/end dates.
  • List responsibilites
  • List any achievements

Referees:

  • List two previous managers/supervisors you worked with in the past who would be happy to speak to an employer

 

Other Tips

  • Include additional certifications/licences applicable to your industry.
  • Keep it short and simple
  • no more than 2-5 pages.
  • Be honest with your work experience
  • referees are followed up during the selection process to ensure what you have stated is in actual fact, the truth.
  • Make sure you check for spelling and grammar
  • Avoid using fancy writing - simple and easy to read font is always the best option.
